SHORT TITLE:
Prohibiting children from riding in open truck bed; exceptions; penalty.

DATE INTRODUCED: March 24, 1997

CODE REFERENCE: Amends Article 15, Chapter 17c by adding a new §46a.

PROPOSED LAW PRESENTED TO THE COMMITTEE: The law is silent currently. The bill would make it a misdemeanor, punishable by a $20-$50 fine, to allow a child under the age of 910 to ride in the open bed or trailer of a motor vehicle.

Exceptions: parades, exhibition events, or while engaged in farm work off the streets or highways in this state.

NOTE: There is a provision, similar to that involving seat belt use by prohibiting the introduction of a violation as evidence of negligence in a civil action.
